We all live for the fun in life. But if we live for the “weekends” only, we delay God’s desire to bless us in the task that will occupy most of our adult lives: work—whether you’re a stay-at-home mom or someone who heads out each morning to an office or job.
We are taught in Ecclesiastes 3 that work is a gift from God, given for our enjoyment and blessing. But for most, work is anything but enjoyable. And some may have a hard time describing their boss as “a gift”!
True enough, some work may not fit our ideal job description—but consider the alternative. Have you ever known anyone who was happy and satisfied standing in an unemployment line?
Wherever you find yourself working today–whether on a factory line, under a sink, at a desk, in a truck, or on the phone—thank God for your work. It may be less than perfect, but it is where God has placed you, at least for now. And it is an opportunity for you to use your gifts and talents to serve God and express praise to Him—especially if you use them with a grateful and joyful heart.
“I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and to do good in one’s lifetime; moreover, that every man who eats and drinks sees good in all his labor—it is the gift of God” (Ecclesiastes 3:12-13, NASB).
