GROUNDED

As I understand it, this is a debated topic, but I would really appreciate your opinions. And please don't consider anything you have to say as "unlearned"; everything posted is for the glory of God. So if you have something to say, I invite you, SAY IT!

I believe that this should not be an issue at all. But...How Readest Thou?

Well, yes, of course they "can" be pastors; but "should" they be pastors? And what does the Word say about this?

To the Law and to the Testimony! If they speak not according to this word, it is because....

yes, in fact everyone can be pastors. A pastor is someone who nurtures and protects someone in the faith.

Man should lead because God created men to be initiators, therefore they should be leading the flock. But if no such man qualifies or have such faith, then by all means a woman may lead.

An example would be Deborah in the book of judges, she was the only woman judge since she had more faith than the men of Israel.

I agree with you that a woman can lead, in proportion to her faith; yet the topic here is not whether a woman is to lead (which the Bible limits), but whether she can have the office of a bishop, or pastor.

And since we are in the New Testament dispensation, what does It say about it?

Hey you, thanks for the comment! You're right in that women should be silent in church, for so it says in the Bible.

Where does it say that in the bible??

Why do you think women should not have rights and no voice within the church? I would like to know why you think that.

Hey Rebecca,

Here are the Scriptures you have requested.

Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only? 1 Corinthians 14.34-36

Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. 1 Timothy 2.11-14

As for women being excluded from being in the office of a bishop, that is, pastor, and deacon, that is found in 1 Timothy chapter 3.

It should be that men lead the church, ie pastor, deacons, as they are primarily responsible for the spiritual health of the family and are first held accountable, however if the men are non believers or incapable, then it is the women's responsibility to see to the life of the church

Hey Jonathan, thank you for your input.

Yet, I wonder if there has ever been a situation where all of the men in the church were suddenly unbelievers or incapable?

Reply to This

not necessarily unbelievers or incapable, but often unwilling. Look at the modern sunday school, typically led by a woman because the men don't really want to step up and do it. It's not really that they can't but that they won't. They can't be forced, but the job has to be done

yeah but that's Sunday school. the duties of a pastor and a Sunday school teacher are totally different. and if it's children's Sunday school you're talking about, then it's because most men naturally don't have the gift of teaching to children. and that's not exlusive to teaching the Gospel, i can remember i've only had 1 male teacher way back in elementary/primary school (except for my a few of my phys. ed. teachers).
