Men Hugging Men... Is it meant to be a common thing or only in a few circumstances?

Hey I was curious what other peoples' views and the Bible's is on guys hugging other guys. I was really excited one time and I felt like hugging this other guy (at my youth group I think) and he told me "Dude, men don't hug, that's weird." And this confused me so I stopped hugging men as much and just shook their hands or put my hand on their shoulders when I greeted them. Now I was just wondering what the general consensus on this site about this topic is and the Bible's take on it if someone would be kind enough to let me know what that is. Thank you!

Maybe it was just the guy you tried to hug. In some countries guys kiss other guys on the cheek. I hug my brothers all the time. Maybe the guy you hugged never got hugs from his dad and so he's a little insecure about getting hugs from other men. I normally do the side hugs with my brothers and sisters. I have a friend who does full on body slam hugs but I'm okay with it because it doesn't bother me. I know his intentions. It just all depends on the person who is getting hugged.. IMO.

I dont think the bible teaches us anything about hugging others except love!!! And I think you did or do nothing wrong by hugging another man! Thats ridiculous!... I think people who think its fruity or what not are insecure and havent been loved enough!.... I love when guys are confident enough to show another man love.. Brotherly love duh!... but yea.... you shouldn't change for anyone you never know if one day a hug you give can to someone can let them know that there is still love and hope and good people in this world! ... <3

Hey thx guys for all ur opinions! I have thought about this before but I never openly discussed it. The majority of my male friends usually just shake my hand or put a hand on my shoulder when they greet me. They also do sidehugs somewhat often too. But I think it's probably just a macho thing cuz men usually want to project strength to all the people they come into contact with. I do hug my dad before he goes on trips(he's a pilot), I almost never hug my only brother though. I think I have stopped hugging people alot over the last few years just because I became a little more emotionally calloused. I still have love for people, but I just give them a handshake or whatever.

Well, if they ever bring this issue to your attention, present the following Scriptures to them:

Luke 15:20, And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. Surely, just as the Father has compassion (love in verb rather than noun) on His prodigal, we should have more love one another for the brethren. Yea, there should be no machismo in the body of Christ.

Acts 20:36, 37, And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all. And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck, and kissed him. Here, Paul, after exhorting the elders (which, no doubt, were men) of the church at Ephesus, was hugged and cried on by these men. Now, did he recoil in disgust at their behavior? or did he command them not to act so unseemly towards him, or any man? Nay; indeed he wept back, for it says that they all wept sore, and they even kissed him. Falling on a person's neck is an expression of love for the person; and it is written, We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. And again, the same Apostle writes, Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. So, after the example of God's love for us, so should we love our brethren. And how would we react if, after seeing the Lord when we come to His glory, and wanting to embrace Him, He reject us, and call us unmanly? O Lord God! forbid the thought! May we love one another!

DUDE...you know early christian use to kiss like on the lips...not because it was in any way gay, but because it was seen as the passing of word of God from the mouth(nah mean)...anyway i hug other guys...i mean not just anybody, just people i have massive amounts of respect for...and besides "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13 (KJV). There is nothing unmanly about showing a lil Love to another man by giving him a hug...because i believe that greatest act of love to another person is to either literaly reflect John 15:13 or to just use at as principle...

My point of view is if someone cant get a hug without they not thinking something weird\perverted then somethings wrong wit that dude. I hug my friends all the time and nothings wrong with that, if the guy u hugged felt weird then somethings wrong with his thinking.

Hey last caller you're so true and I didn't even finishing reading your article, and yeah in some countries guys do kiss other guys on cheeck as a greeting or lets say one of your brothers or couusines or a goood friend won a soccer game or did somethig really well, eeehh-weeell that's when they kiss each other and only on each other's cheecks, and then theey huug and maybe kiss one more time! lol Like come-on to those who thining al wormy and sluggishly,, only takes a a few pages in the Bibke to be turned and you will know that ONE. we are spiritual beings and even more spiritual after accepting Christ Jesus into our lives and next TWO. we are made for God and who else but each other and ofcoarse THREE. If we do not love others especially when we see that they need or sense it from the H... Spirit or see it their eeyes, ppuppy dog eyes etc... lol or they ask it for themsekves from then yyeah , as True Christians that shouldn't be any problem esepcially when we are spiritual beings and believe the Holy Spirit and the Power and KNowledge of God live right inside of you, we jsut need to know how to spiritually ask Jehovah and His Yashua to give it us and and so much that it will let it flow unto ALLL others. Especally those who need it!! I come from Armenia and so let me tell you Guys And girls are very close there in a brotherly way.

I hope that answers... all your doubts on kissing and hugging....Oh by teh way when you do
it's a spiritual thing, so as long as you think about it before you do it and know that the Holy Spirituality is there within you and with the other person you will not transpose or transfer a bad spiritual flavour or "lust" if you may say to teh other person so really. what you are doing is only Holy Spirited and nothing else and nothing less! and that's waht makes it A GOOD thing, Holy Spiritual actually and reality and kisses and hugs only for transposing love and kindess and care and hope into the other person, instead of. lust, and temptation towards anything else even a little more than...and that way doing it with God' Holy power nothing evil shall pass through.

right form back all the way to the front and then from the back to the front again I hope I answered all your doubts and questions in mind. and here's a challenege lets keep the discussion moving on,,, LETS SEE SOME MORE ANSWERS AND SCRIPTURAL REFERENCES For this question!!! yyaya good question by the way Ricky Rick Rick

I think its great that God doesnt view being a man as being insensitive or acting hard all the time. I now realize that huggin dudes is perfectly acceptable, but my natural inclination still is to just stick wit slappin hands or pattin the dude on the back or the shoulder, its just wat im use 2 and its a common custom in the US. But I'm glad 2 kno that huggin is cool thx everybody 4 openin my eyes.
