GROUNDED

When can we truly connect to the God of the heavens, of the universe? In our bedrooms before we sleep? Or must we go into a time of fasting, seclusion, and self-denial?

Give me your thoughts.

Good question. I would like to know that too. Sometimes I think the best place is in a secluded place such as your bedroom or other quiet area while in a state of fasting. Not sure how right that is but that is what I think.

i don't think there's any set time, that if you don't do it then, God won't answer ... it's different with everyone
everyone's relationship with God is different and we all have our times when we spend time with God, some may find before they sleep the best time they have with God and that's fine, for me it changes, i think the important thing is that we spend time, not so much when, but that we do. Today we live in such a fast paced world, that we find it hard to "fit" God in, we should never have to fit God in, in my opinion, if God is our heavenly Father and we love him with all our mind soul and body we shouldn't struggle to fit him in. and just with the title of your discussion, (finding God), God isn't hidden, he is as clear as the pen on your desk, God never hides from his children, sometimes because our lives are full of sin, we might find it hard to locate God but he is always there!, which i find so comforting =),

I hope that helps you with your question ,,

take care

i think.. we can truly connect to God anywhere and anytime as long as we are sincere in connecting to Him. Actually, in every second and minute of our life, we are connected to Him. We can think, talk, and know Him more every minute. I am saying that we can pray anywhere and anytime. But the best place to do a prayer is in the quiet place, where you can feel the presence of God. It is really important to have a fasting. But it doesn't mean that fasting is the only way to connect to God. We can do it in a simple way.

I believe we can connect with God at anytime. God is not a respecter of persons. Therefore, if we truly desire to connect with Him, He will fulfill that desire. If we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us. It does not matter what time it happens as long as we are truly wanting to seek Him.

God said he is always with you in spirit, so i believe the place doesn't matter nor the circumstance in which you are in. just open your heart to God, whether or not you pray out loud, he can always hear his children. i believe the fasting and self denial is for when you are waiting for God's answer in a time of trial. remember Ester and Mordecai, they fasted when they believed that their final days were near, the prayed bitterly for the king to favor Ester and rescue the Jews. Therefore, because of the strong commitment they made in faith in God their prayers were answered. pray anywhere, i think the Heavenly Father would want you to come to him at anytime, for any reason. "Ask and you shall receive, knock and the door will be open to you"... this means come to the Father and he will be there for you.

These are all great answers. I wasnt expecting this many people to post.

I recently went on a trip to Gatlinburg, TN. I took only the essential items and a few electronic items. My solo trip was strictly to 'find God.' I was saved in 2009 in the mountains of Gatlinburg, so I felt drawn back to that place. I fasted, to an extent, to help me keep to my word of not indulging myself on pleasure. I ate simple meals, not a 5-course meal.

I wanted to know God's will for my life, and I had so many questions. I'd hike to the top of a mountain and just worship in my heart, constantly surveying the scenery, enjoying creation at its best. I'm at a point in my life where I'd do anything to just hear God speak in my life, and show me what He'd have me to do for Him.

I asked this questions not because I wanted to know what to do to 'find God'...but because as children of a God who fashioned the universe, we too often allow ourselves to walk away and never connect with Him. Like a college student who leaves home and never calls Mom or Dad. My relationship with my family, friends, girlfriend, and God all were/are in decline.

So I say all of that to say this: Connect with God daily. Look around and find Him in your backyard; Paul says in Romans that creation shows us His character. Open the Word and step into His presence. Pray and talk with Him; sharing your happiness, sadness, loneliness, anger...everything, with Him.
